The new STIGA Estate 3398 HW ride-on mower is powered by a twin-cylinder Briggs & Stratton engine with a net power output of 11.45 kW @ 2800 rpm and features a pedal-operated hydrostatic transmission. The bonnet introduces a new design to optimise motor performance and has LED headlights to ensure better visibility at any time of year. The 98 cm cutting deck can be adjusted to 7 different cutting heights ranging from 25 to 80 mm, using a convenient lever; the cutting height can also be adjusted on the move and the anti-scalp wheels prevent the risk of scalping when cutting on uneven surfaces.
With light steering and a tight turning circle the Estate 3398 HW is agile to manoeuvre around trees, borders and garden furniture with minimum effort and is suitable for gardens up to 2 acres in size.
All STIGA garden tractors cut wider than the wheel width, which means there is little trimming left to do after the lawns have been mown. Grass cuttings are blown from the twin-bladed cutting deck into a large 240 litre capacity rear-mounted collector. An alarm sounds to let the driver know when the collector is full, which is a valuable feature; there is nothing worse than overfilling the collector and then having to unblock the discharge chute by hand – at least you know when the collector is full on a Stiga! Emptying the collector is done from the driving seat; simply pull the tipping lever and the collector opens wide emptying out the clippings - you don’t even need to get off the tractor.
The Estate 3398 HW also features an adjustable seat for added comfort and a safety switch located under the seat cuts off the engine and the cutting deck if the driver leaves the driving position whilst the mower is in operation. The LED display on the dashboard makes it easy to monitor the operating indicators.
A deck wash facility means keeping the deck clean couldn’t be simpler; just attach a hose to the snap-on connector, turn on the water and engage the blades. Water blasts around beneath the deck, washing it clean.
Driving a hydrostatic model is smoother than ever before, the further you press the drive pedal, the faster the machine travels. Stiga Lawn Tractors are extremely versatile machines; they can collect the grass clippings, or rear discharge them when required. When conditions are suitable, they can also mulch and recycle your grass!
Mulching grass is a great feature, it saves so much time; it can be more than 30% quicker as there is no stopping work to empty clippings. Mulching the grass allows the clippings to be recycled, improving the soil as they decompose, forming a natural fertiliser high in potash and nitrogen. You will notice a marked improvement in your grass as this fertiliser takes effect over the course of the cutting season. You may well ask “Will I see the mulched grass?” and the answer is “No” Mulched clippings are blown deep down into the turf and are not noticeable, provided the grass is cut regularly and not on the lowest setting.
Some owners prefer to collect grass cuttings on areas close to the house to be certain that children or pets don’t carry them inside, then use the mulching facility on all the other areas. Switching between collection or mulch modes is extremely simple and takes less than a minute; just remove the collector, insert the mulching plug into the discharge chute and replace the collector. To return to collection, simply reverse the procedure.
