Which Robot Mower is Right For You?

Not all robot mowers are the same.

The right choice depends on your garden size, the slopes you've got, whether you want to lay boundary wire or go completely wire-free, and your budget.

Here's a quick overview of the brands we stock:

Husqvarna Automower

The best-known name in robot mowing. Reliable, proven, and available in a range of models to suit small gardens right through to large estates. Most models use a boundary wire to map your garden.

Best for: Homeowners who want a trusted, well-supported machine with a strong track record.

Honda Miimo

Honda's take on the robot mower. Quiet, well-built, and backed by Honda's reputation for reliability. A popular choice for homeowners who know and trust the Honda brand.

Best for: Homeowners who prioritise build quality and reliability above all else.

Kress

One of the most exciting options in the market right now. Kress robot mowers use RTK GPS technology, which means no boundary wire at all. Your garden is mapped using satellites instead.

Best for: Homeowners who don't want to lay wire, or those with gardens that are difficult to wire up.

Mammotion

The standout choice for slopes. The Mammotion LUBA 3 handles gradients up to 80%, making it the go-to option for Devon's hilly gardens. Like Kress, it's wire-free.

Best for: Homeowners with steep slopes, large lawns, or anyone who wants wire-free technology with serious performance.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    1Are robot mowers worth it?
For most homeowners, yes. Once installed, a robot mower cuts your lawn automatically every day, which means your grass stays healthier, looks better, and needs far less work from you. The running costs are low because they run on electricity, there's no fuel to buy, and servicing is straightforward. If you currently spend an hour or more a week mowing, a robot mower pays for itself in time alone.
2Do robot mowers need a boundary wire?
It depends on the model. Traditional robot mowers like Husqvarna Automower and Honda Miimo use a boundary wire that's either laid on the surface or buried just beneath it. Newer models from Kress and Mammotion use RTK GPS technology instead, so there's no wire at all. Both approaches work well. The right choice depends on your garden and your preference.
    3Can robot mowers handle slopes?
Yes, but the steepness matters. Most standard models handle slopes up to 35 to 45%. If you've got a steep garden, the Mammotion LUBA is the standout option, handling gradients up to 80%. Devon gardens are often hilly, so this is something we check as part of every FREE Garden Check.
4How do I know which robot mower is right for my garden?
That's what our FREE Garden Check is for. We visit your garden, measure up, check the slopes and boundaries, look at your power supply, and recommend the best mower for your specific situation. There's no cost and no obligation.
5Can a robot mower handle complex gardens with narrow passages?
Yes. Modern robot mowers are designed to navigate complex shapes, narrow passages, and multiple garden zones. We configure the mower during installation to make sure it covers every area of your lawn properly.
    6What happens if it rains?
Most robot mowers have a rain sensor built in. When it detects rain, the mower returns to its charging base automatically and waits for the weather to clear before continuing. Some models allow you to override this setting through the app if you prefer.
    7How long does installation take?
Most installations are completed in half a day. Our technicians install the charging base, set up the boundary wire or GPS mapping, and configure the mower to your garden before walking you through how everything works.
8Do you provide ongoing servicing and support?
Yes. We offer servicing, repairs, and ongoing support from our base in Torquay. We stock parts for all the brands we sell, so if something needs attention, you're not waiting weeks for a part to arrive.
    9What areas do you cover?
We cover Devon and Cornwall as our primary service area, and across the wider South West. If you're not sure whether we cover your area, get in touch and we'll let you know.
