Frequently Asked Questions
Garden Machinery Hire
1How much does it cost to hire garden machinery in Devon?
Hire prices vary depending on the equipment and how long you need it. Smaller tools like strimmers and hedge trimmers start from around £30–£50 per day.
Larger equipment like ride-on mowers, log splitters, and mini diggers will cost more. The best way to get an accurate price is to give us a call or get in touch - we'll confirm availability and give you a clear price with no hidden costs.
2What equipment can I hire from DGM?
We hire out a wide range of garden and groundcare machinery including chainsaws, hedge trimmers, strimmers, scarifiers, rotavators, ride-on mowers, log splitters, pressure washers, chippers, leaf blowers, turf cutters, and more.
If you're not sure whether we stock what you need, get in touch and we'll let you know.
3Do I need any experience to hire garden machinery?
For most equipment, no formal experience is required. However, some machines - particularly chainsaws - should only be used by people who are confident and competent with them.
When you collect your hire equipment, our team will run through how it works and answer any questions. Safety is important to us, so we'll always make sure you're comfortable before you leave.
4How long can I hire equipment for?
We offer daily and weekly hire on most equipment.
If you need something for longer, get in touch and we'll work something out.
Longer hire periods are often available at a better daily rate.
5Do I need to collect the equipment or can you deliver?
Most hire equipment is available for collection from our depot in Torquay. If you need delivery, get in touch and we can discuss options depending on your location and what you're hiring.
6What areas do you cover for equipment hire?
We're based in Torquay and primarily cover the Torbay area, Devon, and the wider South West. If you're not sure whether we cover your location, give us a call and we'll confirm.
7What do I need to bring when I collect hire equipment?
You'll typically need a valid form of ID and a payment method. We may also take a refundable deposit on certain items. We'll confirm exactly what's needed when you book.
8What if the equipment breaks down or has a problem during my hire?
Give us a call straight away. All our hire equipment is serviced and maintained before it goes out, but if something does go wrong we'll do our best to resolve it quickly, whether that's advice over the phone, a replacement, or arranging a collection.
9Is there a minimum hire period?
Most equipment is available for a minimum of one day. Get in touch if you have a specific requirement and we'll see what we can do.
10Can I hire equipment on the same day?
Subject to availability, yes. Give us a call on 01803 872124 and we'll let you know what's available. Booking ahead is always recommended, particularly during busy periods in spring and summer.
